Veronica’s Fitting Room: the Candy Shorts series, reviewed

Veronica’s Fitting Room Candy Shorts starts at a men’s fitting room five days before a wedding. Veronica has measured a long line of grooms, and Candy’s own pitch is that this is the one she’s decided to keep. In episode 1 the groom arrives for his suit and tells himself he shouldn’t be noticing what he’s noticing. Veronica compliments his fiancée, asks him to take off the coat and shirt because the waist has to be exact and wonders aloud if he’s sure he’s ready for marriage. When a venue crisis comes up, her answer is simple: come back tomorrow, alone. By episode 2 he has, and the fiancée is somewhere on the other side of a locked door. It’s a fictional-adult story about temptation, played with a straight face, and the free episodes are suggestive without being explicit. Candy lists the lead profile as Veronica Parker, 55.

It runs on a very simple engine: a measuring tape and a deadline. Veronica is confident in the way the best lead characters are, the fitting-room setting gives every scene a built-in excuse, and the wedding countdown (five days in episode 1, four in episode 2) keeps the stakes visible. Episode 2, with the fiancée just outside, is the best use of 61 seconds in this batch. The risk is predictability: anyone who has seen a romance set in a tailor’s shop knows where a tape measure tends to lead. (I’ve had suit fittings with less tension and a great deal more pins.) But a tight setup beats a clever one that isn’t.

Episode 1 (56 seconds) is the first fitting: a groom five days from his wedding trying not to notice Veronica, a venue crisis, the order to remove his coat and shirt and her invitation to come back tomorrow, alone. Episode 2 (61 seconds) is round two, with his fiancée thinking he’s elsewhere. Veronica locks the door, teases him about his hesitation, then points out that his fiancée is waiting outside and ends the episode on a dare. Suggestive, not explicit.

A tight, confident setup with a countdown clock and a very controlled lead, and the free second episode is the highlight.
