In short
Candy’s AI Phone Call lets you talk to a character by voice for 3 tokens per minute, and it requires a Premium subscription: a free account gets an “Upgrade to Unlock” prompt. It’s labeled beta, so the price could change. Your 100 monthly Premium tokens cover about 33 minutes of calls. Candy asks for microphone permission and suggests speaking clearly and loudly.
What the Candy AI phone call feature is
I avoid phone calls with humans on principle, which makes it a little embarrassing how quickly I got comfortable calling an AI.
The Candy AI voice call feature is officially called “AI Phone Call,” and it’s still in beta. The phone icon sits in the header of every chat, next to icons for Shorts, Private Content and the profile panel. Press it, and instead of typing to a character, you talk.
It needs a subscription, and on a free account the call opens an “Upgrade to Unlock” prompt. Candy’s own wording is that with a subscription you get access to “AI Live Phone Call, AI Girlfriend Generator, Unlimited text messages, Spicy photos requests.” So calls sit in the same bundle as chat and character creation, not on a separate shelf.
That’s a useful framing. Texting is the default way to talk on Candy, and the call is the upgrade for when typing feels like a lot of work. Our AI girlfriend chat guide covers the text side, and voice notes are a separate thing we get to below.
Candy AI voice call cost: 3 tokens a minute
The rate is 3 tokens per minute, and Candy labels it a beta price, so treat it as current rather than permanent. Premium includes 100 tokens a month, which makes the math easy.
| Call length | Tokens | Share of 100 monthly tokens |
|---|---|---|
| 1 minute | 3 | 3% |
| 5 minutes | 15 | 15% |
| 10 minutes | 30 | 30% |
| 12 minutes | 36 | 36% |
| 33 minutes | 99 | 99% |
A full month’s allowance buys about 33 minutes. Here’s a fun comparison: a 12-minute call costs 36 tokens, exactly what it takes to finish a standard five-episode Shorts series. One of those is a conversation and the other is a cliffhanger binge, and I will not tell you which to pick.
For a dollar figure, treat the subscription as nothing but tokens. On the 12-month plan ($3.99/mo), that’s about 12 cents a minute. On the 1-month plan ($13.99), it’s about 42 cents a minute.
We didn’t verify how Candy rounds partial minutes, so watch the clock rather than assume.
How to start a Candy AI voice call
Here’s the route, based on what Candy shows:
- Have a Premium subscription. Calls require one.
- Open a chat with the character you want to call. Not sure who? Browse the Girls tab first.
- Press the phone icon in the chat header.
- Allow microphone access when your browser asks. The call can’t work without it.
- Speak clearly and loudly. That’s Candy’s own tip, and it matters more than you’d think.
- Hang up and leave feedback. Candy asks for feedback after the call.
Because Candy runs in the browser, the microphone permission is a browser permission. If you denied it once, you’ll need to turn it back on in your browser’s settings before the call will work.
A Candy AI voice call works best in a quiet room. Nothing kills a voice conversation like a dishwasher having its own opinions. Candy’s “speak clearly and loudly” tip is partly a polite way of saying the microphone and your kitchen are not friends.
We didn’t test voice quality or delay across devices, so I won’t rate them.
Do a short test first. A one-minute call costs 3 tokens, which makes it the cheapest way to check your microphone, your room and your nerve before a longer conversation.
Voice notes vs phone calls
Candy has two ways to hear a character speak, and they’re different.
| Voice notes | AI Phone Call | |
|---|---|---|
| Where | In the chat | The phone icon in the chat header |
| Style | Messages you play when you like | A live, back-and-forth conversation |
| Price | Not verified | 3 tokens a minute (beta) |
| Needs | Premium, per the free-chat “Unlock” banner | Subscription and microphone permission |
Voice notes are the gentler option. The character sends audio, you listen on your own time, and nobody asks you to talk to your laptop. A call is the real-time version.
If you’re deciding between them, I’d start with voice notes and move to calls once chat feels familiar. That’s a taste judgment, not a verified rule, and plenty of people will jump straight to the call.
Either way, both live inside the same chat, so you’re never choosing a different product. You’re choosing how loud your apartment gets.
Is the beta price worth it?
It depends on how you budget the 100 tokens. Here’s the same pool across common uses, using costs we verified:
- 33 minutes of calls (99 tokens), or
- 8 Scene Videos at 12 tokens each (96 tokens), or
- About 2 standard Shorts series (72 tokens), or
- A mix.
If you’re a light caller, a couple of 5-minute chats a month costs 30 tokens and leaves 70 for episodes or clips. If you’re a heavy caller, you’ll run out of allowance well before the month ends, and you’d need more tokens on top of Premium. Top-ups are a Premium-member thing (the token store isn’t available on a free account), and I won’t quote prices.
The honest caveat for any Candy AI voice call is “beta.” Candy calls the 3-token rate a beta price, which means it could go up, down or sideways. I’d plan around today’s number and be pleasantly surprised if it improves.
On a budget, Scene Videos and Shorts give you something you can keep, while a call is an experience that ends when you hang up. Neither is better. Only one leaves you with a Collection. Our pricing page has the full token table.
Who should try Candy AI phone calls?
Try it if you like conversation more than reading. Calls remove the typing, and some people simply bond with a voice faster than a paragraph.
Skip it if you’re on a tight token budget, if you’re in a shared space, or if you’d rather watch a story than join one. The free Shorts episodes are the safer way to find out whether Candy suits you before you spend a cent.
The downsides, plainly: it’s beta, it needs a subscription, it needs microphone permission, and it shares tokens with episodes and Scene Videos. Candy says plans renew automatically, so cancel on time if you only wanted to test it, and your card statement will say “EverAI.”
Candy runs seasonal sale banners from time to time, but the 70% off the annual plan is applied automatically, no code needed. Start free; if you’re going to finish more than one series a month, the annual plan at $3.99/mo is the cheapest way in. Calls come along in the same plan, so a test run costs only the tokens you choose to spend.
