Mona’s Obsession Candy Shorts is a rivalry that nobody in the house believes. Mona says she can’t stand her smug, messy stepbrother, yet she turns up wherever he is, never knocks, and uses every opportunity to tease. He has a girlfriend, Kaylee, whom Mona describes in terms we won’t repeat, and a parent in the house who keeps interrupting. Episode 1 starts when Mona walks in on you watching something and asks if she’s hotter than whoever was on screen. Episode 2 moves the war to your bathroom, because her hot water is out, and then to a very awkward introduction when Kaylee arrives. Mona is a 19-year-old university student, everyone in the series is an adult, and the free episodes are teasing and tense rather than explicit.
Why it works (and where it doesn’t)
Mona is the reason to press play. Her sarcasm is quick, her brattiness hints at something underneath (her profile calls her secretly emotional), and the free episodes give her room: at 95 and 97 seconds they’re longer than many free episodes, so the banter has time to build. The scene with Kaylee in the room is where the premise earns its keep, comedy and tension at once. The weak point is the usual one: the free pair is all setup, and the real payoff, what Mona’s obsession actually leads to, sits behind the paywall. (Mona’s approach to personal space makes my cat look reserved.)
