Episode 1 recap
Episode 1 starts in motion: a player trying to make it to a gate, and a hunter on his tail. The game’s rules arrive over a loudspeaker. Players who reach the gate earn their freedom, and hunters who help a player die with them. Eli, the player, has Delilah’s weapon at his back and a sharper idea than running. He’s a doctor, he says, and he can stop the bleeding if she lets him. Her arm gets treated, he asks for a few seconds in return, and Delilah, deciding whether to trust him, agrees to count five. The episode ends with the count already under way and the game’s voice ordering her to kill him. It’s 84 seconds of pure setup, and the free episodes don’t get more serious than this.
The momentThe announcer lays out the rule: “Hunters, help a player and you die with them.” The whole series hangs on it.
