What Old Friends, New Sins is about
Old Friends, New Sins Candy Shorts is a story about money that happens to be a romance. Dasha Vardosiva is 24, Russian-American, confident and spoiled, and her full-time occupation is luxury. Her boyfriend Niko has just told his best friend that his business is gone and he’s going broke, which Dasha doesn’t know yet. Episode 1 is a dinner: Dasha sizes up Niko’s friend, Niko’s card is declined, and the friend quietly picks up the check. Episode 2 moves to the car and then the house, with Dasha delivering a line about chasing that sets the tone for everything. According to Candy’s pitch, his refusal to chase flips the power between them. Every character is an adult, the tone is teasing, and the free episodes stay suggestive.
Why it works (and where it doesn’t)
Money is a good engine for a short series. The declined card is a clean, specific scene that sets up debt, gratitude and temptation in ten seconds, and Dasha’s line that chasing is for boys and men don’t need to is both a flirt and the thesis of the show. I like that the protagonist is passive in an interesting way: he pays, he stays, and he doesn’t pursue her. (The most expensive thing on the table wasn’t the wine; it was a declined card.) The cost is the betrayal angle, which isn’t for everyone, and the free episodes are mainly setup. If friend-betrayal plots don’t sit well with you, skip it.
The free episodes
Episode 1 (80 seconds) is a dinner where Niko confides that his business is gone, Dasha starts testing his best friend, Niko’s card is declined, and the friend steps in to pay. It ends with Dasha leaving with a pointed question about what she’s worth. Episode 2 (62 seconds) follows the late drive home, Dasha’s line about chasing, and an invitation to crash in the guest wing, which she calls very private. Suggestive, never explicit.
After the paywall
Episodes 3 to 5 cost 12 tokens each (3 × 12 = 36). Premium is required, and its 100 monthly tokens leave 64 for another series. Candy marks all three New. Unlocked episodes are yours forever with no ads, and the series ends in a chat with Dasha, so you can carry the story on after the finale.
