Episode 1 recap
Episode 1 plays in two halves. The first is a family scene: with the wedding days away, the groom floats the idea of a bachelor party, and his future mother-in-law shuts it down flat, in front of everyone, with the line that gives the series its title. He takes it graciously, tells us she must hate him, and watches his fiancée head off for a nap after too many brunch mimosas. She asks to be woken at 4:00, says her goodbyes, and the house goes quiet. The second half is the pivot. With the family gone from the room, the mother-in-law drops the stern act and tells him to follow her. He does. She explains that her daughter is a light sleeper and that whatever is coming has to happen quietly. His question, what exactly, gets a one-word answer: surprise.
